Following its highly acclaimed relaunch last September, the famous Chelsea Antiques & Fine Art Fair is now firmly established as one of London's major art and antique events of the spring season. The fair made its debut with a strong emphasis on quality, style and superb presentation attracting many plaudits from visitors and exhibitors.

Sophie Wood, the Fair Organiser, explains: "We are very excited to be presenting the fair in its traditional spring slot. With its new bold and stylish format our debut event as organisers was extremely well received. Now our exhibitors are returning to provide another sumptuous selection of the finest pieces available on the art market today."

Mark Goodger Antiques - An extremely rare oval Anglo Indian Tea Chest made of solid rosewood with inlaid and engraved
lac filled decoration, made in Vizagapatam, circa 1800.Priced at £22,000.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Collectors of rare objects will be well served with some remarkable finds from the roster of exhibitors, including a superb Anglo Indian tea chest at £22,000 from Mark Goodger Antiques; a unique Japanese Meiji period carved wood and lacquered figure group depicting a fisherman fighting a huge octopus from Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art at more than £50,000; and a very special self-portrait oil painting by Mary Fedden RA OBE (1915 – 2012), pictured with her cat, on the stand of Kaye Michie Fine Art, priced at £36,000.

Among the most unusual and collectable pieces will be Lady Hamilton’s keepsake ‘orange blossom’ box for her wedding flowers from circa 1795 with a full history. This unique item of Nelson memorabilia belongs to Wick Antiques and has a ticket price of £6,600. Wick Antiques specialise mainly in English furniture with specialisms in globes and maritime collector’s items.

New exhibitor John Robertson, who specialises in fine paintings and prints, shows a superb etching by Stanley Anderson RA, depicting a violin maker engaged in his craft. Dating from 1948, this rare item in on sale for £1,100.

Among the exhibitors will be Hansord from Lincolnshire specialising in fine period furniture, works of art, clocks and scientific instruments; Hatchwell Antiques from the King’s Road showing antique telescopes and binoculars, maritime models, scientific instruments and aeronautical design; and Fileman Antiques from West Sussex with fine eighteenth and nineteenth century chandeliers, wall lights, candelabras, candle lustres and glass.

Mary Cooke Antiques shows fine English silver; David Brooker Fine Art from the USA has English and European paintings, Morgan Strickland Decorative Arts specialise in Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau silver and glass, and T.Robert has jewellery and fine silver.

Also showing will be Midland dealer Andrew Muir and James Miles with decorative arts from the late 19th and 20th centuries; Mark Goodger Antiques with fine boxes and objets d’art; well-known clock specialist and Antiques Roadshow expert Richard Price and Timewise Vintage Watches.

Carolyn Stoddart-Scott shows porcelain and pottery; The Hunt Gallery from Sandwich showcase the artist Michal Hunt; Philip Carroll offers fine and rare porcelain; and Brian Watson Antique Glass specialises in English, Bohemian, German and French glass.

The fashionable King’s Road is the ideal location for an event that exudes a glamour sure to attract the most sophisticated art and antiques afficionados. "Our intention is to provide a sophisticated marketplace for connoisseurs and collectors, says Sophie. "and we will be enhancing the fair’s appeal even more this year."
